Foreign Secretary Mr. Amrit Bahadur Rai is leaving for Belgium tomorrow, leading the Nepali delegation, to co-chair the 16th meeting of the Joint Commission between Nepal and the European Union (EU), scheduled to be held in Brussels on 28 November 2025.
The Nepali delegation comprises senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. Prior to the Joint Commission meeting, a session of the Sub-Commission on Development Cooperation between Nepal and the European Union will take place.
During the Joint Commission meeting, both sides will review the overall state of Nepal-EU relations, including cooperation in regional and multilateral forums on issues of common interests.
While in Brussels, the Foreign Secretary will also meet with other senior officials of the European Union.
Likewise, Foreign Secretary Mr Rai will attend the High-level Meeting on “Forging Ambitious Global Partnerships for the Sustainable and Resilient Graduation of Least Developed Countries” to be held in Doha, Qatar on 1 December 2025.
The meeting, jointly organised by the Government of the State of Qatar and the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS), is scheduled from 2 to 4 December 2025.
On the margins of the meeting, Foreign Secretary Mr Rai will also hold discussions with senior officials of various UN agencies.
Nepal currently serves as the Chair of the Global Coordination Bureau of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and plans to graduate from LDC status in 2026.
